A Good Change of Pace

Davis slept through the morning visit, so GiGi stayed at the apartment while Milon and I visited Leah. We were met by our interpreter Ainura to go over Leah's schedule and ask the last few questions we have. The nanny said we could take a bottle as a keepsake and most importantly they would weigh her and get her head circumference and height. Leah was incredibly whinny and fell asleep quickly in Milon's arms. The nanny said she was developmentally ahead of all the kids and was a very social and active baby. They also said she ate well for them which surprised us!

We had a fun rest of the day catching a taxi to the Sulpak Market! Our Belgian friends gave us a great map of Aktobe so we have lots of new places to explore!
We bought a bunch of handmade scarfs, hats, socks, sweaters and Kazakh hats. Davis was a very good boy while we shopped so he got a Kazakh Ben 10 shooter toy. No really, we have no idea who Ben 10 is but he liked it. The market was much better than any store we have been in thus far. It reminded us of the NC State Flea Market. Most of the cheaper, handmade things were outside and the imports from China were inside. See our loot below....It was very cold out today, so we had frost bite by the time we got home. We almost lost Davis at this market. We didn't know that the bridge we were walking on was the road and a big SUV came flying over the top while Davis was running over the bridge. GiGi ran towards him screaming and the car saw her and stopped. From the angle, they would not have been able to see Davis walking! After we all caught our breath, GiGi carried him a very long time through the market!

After we thawed out, Milon and I walked to the grocery store to pick up some chicken while GiGi played playdough. There are a lot of stray dogs in Kazakhstan and we almost got eaten by 2! They were guarding their turf and weren't happy that we walked by. We made it home and had happy hour until Milon finished Chicken Franchaise for dinner!

4 more days until Gotcha day!!
